Geoscience?
What is
Geoscience, also known as Earth science, is the study of the Earth. From its molten core to its melting ice caps, the Earth underpins our very existence and we use geoscience to understand it.
Geoscience is...
AWESOME!

No force on this Earth is greater than the forces of the Earth itself. From the slow building up and wearing down of mountains on its surface, to the forging of new minerals under crushing heat and pressure deep inside, the preservation of ancient life as fossils millions of years old, and the destruction that can occur in moments from a large volcanic eruption, earthquake or tsunami, you'll be in awe of just what the Earth can do!

Geoscience studies all of these natural processes and more to understand how, where and why they take place, how they affect us and the environment, and how they have shaped our world in the past, present, and into the future.
The diversity of geoscience means there are literally dozens of different jobs and careers you could end up in depending on your other skills and interests. Love travelling or being outdoors? Geoscience is for you! Would rather stay inside and be a wizard on the computer? Geoscience is for you too!

Studying geoscience enables you to develop numerous and diverse transferable knowledge and skills...it really is what you make of it! Whether you want to 'chase the big bucks', support people in your local community, or help protect the environment, there are geoscientists out there doing just that...and you could be too!
Geoscience is...
EXCITING!

Geoscience is...
EVERYWHERE!

From the origins of life to the resources of tomorrow, geoscience uses a range of scientific approaches and technologies to study Earth's history, structure, materials, and processes. Different aspects of geoscience can draw upon (and inform) numerous other subjects such as geography, chemistry, physics, biology, oceanography, astronomy, computer science, statistics, engineering...and even law, music, and art!

Collectively, the geosciences help us understand the world and our place in it, and are vital for progress toward a safer, more sustainable society.
