No matter where your skills or interests lie, there's a geoscience career where they'll apply!

What careers can studying geoscience lead to?

There are many different branches of geoscience. While some are very general, others can be highly specialised. Plus, studying geoscience doesn't mean you HAVE to become a geoscientist. But it does mean you'll develop an exciting understanding and appreciation of the natural world, and develop valuable knowledge and skills that can be applied to a wide range of different jobs and careers! Explore some of these options below:

What else can you do with geoscience?

If you become a geoscientist, there may be lots of opportunity to collaborate and contribute to the work of others in other fields. From serious things like helping people protect themselves from natural hazards, to fun things like providing science advice to the entertainment industry, you never know where studying geoscience might take you!

Not sure if geoscience is for you? No problem!

Geoscience is a HUGE area, working within and across many different industries and sectors. These all need support from other experts in order to conduct their activities safely and effectively. So even if you don't want to study geoscience, you could still work for a geoscience-related organisation by pursuing one of the many other careers they rely on to do their work, such as:

Sailors & Sea Technicians

70% of the Earth is covered by water so a lot of geoscience is done offshore. This means we need people skilled at operating ships and deploying equipment at sea, often for weeks at a time!

Machinists & Technologists

Science is always looking for ways to gather better quality data. Machinists and technologists design, build and maintain equipment to do this, from the smallest drone to the largest laboratory laser.
